Montreal Trip 2012
Wen went to Montreal for the Fantasia Film Festival and had an amazing time. Montreal is one of the most bike friendly cities I’ve been to and it has some of the best markets around. It is also known for its amazing restaurants. It’s easy enough to get to from New York and it’s a great place to visit if you want to go to Europe but you’re on a super low budget.

Heirloom Tomato Salad
Local heirloom tomatoes are finally in season! Hurrah! This most likely means I’ll be eating them all day errday. Here’s a delicious and beautiful method of preparation that really makes the flavor of the tomatoes shine. Lemon zest and garden herbs basil and parsley brighten the flavors a bit. Salt and pepper and olive oil tie it all together and the unlikely addition of fresh...

Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania
A couple friends and I went up to Pennsylvania for the weekend to visit my Grandma and get out of the city for a bit. We picked blueberries, ate barbecue, visited cows, played with fireworks, swam in the lake and rowed in a rowboat and lived it up in the great outdoors.
Lots more pictures after the jump.

Meyer Lemon and Tarragon Martini
This drink is simple, elegant and inventive. Its base is New Amsterdam Straight Gin, which is not as heavy on the juniper as a traditional gin would be and mixes better with the Meyer Lemon and tarragon without overpowering them. Three quarters of an ounce of St. Germaine adds a nice floral note as well.
Recipe after the jump.

Rhubarb Custard Pie
This recipe was adapted from Bubby’s Banana Cream Pie, which is dangerously delicious. Although I love the pie made with bananas, I had been dreaming about rhubarb custard pie and couldn’t find a decent recipe that combined the best parts of custard with the best parts of rhubarb. So I got a little creative and came up with this here recipe. Before you read on, this is a HIGHLY...

Lacinata Kale Salad
This kale salad is delicious. I got the ingredients from the farmer’s market this past weekend and they went together very well. The lacinta kale, also known as Tuscan kale is best for eating raw in salads when chopped finely. The multicolored carrots are sweet and tender after parboiling, and the Japanese cucumbers add a nice refreshing crunch. Topped off with shredded manchego and...

Sweet Cherry Pie
Although cherry pie should always be made with sour cherries if they’re available, it can also be made with sweet cherries with the right substitutions. Now that sweet cherries are readily available everywhere, and I had an excess of them, I decided to try my hand at making a pie with them. Using the expert advice of Deb from Smitten Kitchen to guide the recipe but I added in some...
